About Us:

We are a team of students in Mechanical Engineering at MIT, Biomedical Computation at Stanford University, and Engineering Science at the University of Toronto. In the fall of 2008, we first came together as a team during an MIT senior design class entitled "The Product Engineering Process", taught by Professor David Wallace. We were given free rein to choose a project which would be the focus of our semester. Having heard of the need for a portable, easy-to-use Braille labeler in the blind and visually impaired community, we developed our first prototype by early December. The response to our device was so overwhelmingly positive that we felt we couldn't just leave it there.

In 2009 we began the next step of the process. We developed a second, more portable prototype, and we are actively searching for funding and partners to bring the 6dot into production. Over the course of the 6dot's development, we've been lucky enough to have invaluable input from our friends at the National Braille Press and the Perkins School for the Blind, as well as guidance and funding from MIT Mechanical Engineering and the MIT Public Service Center.
